Shinier Sabers, Wampa Arms, and Who Shot First

Plenty of hard-core Star Wars fans, and even casual viewers, are excited about the new Blue Ray edition of Star Wars: The Complete Saga. I've already pre-ordered mine, so I was interested to read an article on Yahoo about some of the changes. Click on the image above to read it yourself!

Who is the Batman?

Although I watched reruns of the 60's show, my main memories of Batman are from the 80's when Michael Keaton played the caped crusader. I clearly remember my t-shirt emblazoned with the yellow bat logo, standing in line for hours to get in to the theater, and even auditioning for the dance company using a song from the soundtrack. Jack Nicholson was my Joker, Danny Devito my Penguin, and Michelle Pfeiffer the stunning Catwoman. I saw all of the subsequent films with Kilmer and Clooney, but did not enjoy them as much as the first two, so when Batman Begins came out back 2005, I was skeptical. However, I loved it. I also loved The Dark Knight and despite all the hype, thought Heath Ledger was brilliant as the Joker.

Today I caught a headline discussing Anne Hathaway as the new Catwoman, and read criticisms regarding her costume, so I started looking around to get an idea of what the fuss was all about. First, I could not find much in the way of studio-released images so I searched through some fan art to see what was available. It definitely appears more utilitarian than previous incarnations, but there is still a sexiness to it. I am interested to see how they will play her character: the mousy assistant gone feral? The catburgler leading a double life? I like Anne Hathaway and I can totally see her in this role, so hopefully it won't dissapoint. I see that Tom Hardy and Guy Pearce will also be joining the cast with Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman reprising their previous roles. There is definitely no dearth of talent, so hopefully it will not dissapoint.

Here are a few images I located, although I havn't confirmed which are studio-released vs. fan art.

I Hate To Say I Told You So, But...

Well, I guess I really don't hate to say "I told you so!" although I prefer to gloat on the inside when my comments about cybersecurity are brushed off as "paranoia" or "fairy tales,"  only to later be proven true. No one... I repeat... no one is completely safe from hacks, DoS, theft, etc... if they are anyway engaged in modern society. If you use the Internet, own a computer or a smartphone, do business virtually anywhere, your information is "out there" for the taking. This is not to say you should be overly paranoid, just that you should be aware of the risks and consider them when making a decision about how to participate in a technologically driven world.

I am no Chicken Little screaming about the sky falling, although in the new Disney version he was actually right and managed to save the town from aliens on an acorn-hunting excursion. But I digress. My point is to be educated, be informed, and be smart.

Day 1 of Female Mandalorian Costume Endeavor

As I mentioned on my page related to 501st Costumes, I am starting work on the armored portions of the Female Mandalorian who will be in Season 4 of the Clone Wars. She is being voiced by Katee Sackhoff, which is cool enough, but it is hard for me not to also love what a member of the 501st Bounty Hunters Guild Detachment referred to as a "BAMF girl Mando".

I've gone back and forth over whether I should buy pre-made items and shape them, get someone else to make them for me, or do them myself, and settled on doing as much as I can myself. With funding being short at the moment (trying to save for both Sintra and the SWTOR pre-release) I am starting with the patterns, as they really are the core of the whole project.

I found several sizes of Boba Fett armor patterns at The Dented Helmet as the basis for my work. They have already been sized so I all need to do is alter them appropriately. Why reinvent the wheel when you can tweak it, right? I look forward to adding updates as I get this done!

Star Wars: The Old Republic FINALLY! Well...Kind Of

So, I am practically peeing in my pants with excitement over the announcement that pre-orders have begun and possibly open betas will begin in September. I hurt inside over the fact that I do not have the funds at the moment to purchase my Pre-order, but hope to be able to soon!

The skinny seems to be that Pre-orders are now available for three versions of the game running from $149.99 to $59.99. Each level offers a different quantity of goodies, and the order in which the game is purchased is the order in which peeps will be allowed to start playing. Although, the early play time will be a matter of days as opposed to weeks prior to the official launch. Beta Test Weekends start in September which will open the Beta to even more members. The official launch date is still listed as Holiday 2001. Read on for more details:
